Senior Health – diabetes and the warning signs

Diabetes is a very serious disease that affects nearly 21 million people in the United States, and another 54 million people are at risk. It is a very sad disease are diagnosed, and because it has become so common, chances are, if you do not have it if you at least one person who does not know.

What exactly is diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not properly control the amount of sugar in the blood lead to elevated blood sugar levels. This is aResult of the body does not produce enough insulin on their own, or when the body does not properly connected to the insulin. If diabetes is left untreated, can cause serious organ damage. Now there are two types of diabetes, and both are completely different diseases:

Some of the causes of type 2 diabetes can be improved with a change in lifestyle habits and changes, and as a consequence of diabetes is clear, in fact, except his own. So, what are the symptoms and warning signs?

With the exception of a few, many warning signs of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetesare the same. However, the symptoms of type 1 tend to beat much faster, and unfortunately can affect anyone-children, youth, people in the 40's and seniors, all diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Warning Signs for a Type 1:

• increased thirst
• Increased hunger
• Dry mouth
• Frequent urination
• Visual disturbances
• Tiredness
• Headache
• Unexpected weight loss

Type 2 diabetes is usually not diagnosed until complicationsalready taken place. They usually occur the symptoms listed above, but they come slowly and are not immediately noticeable. No fewer than half of all people with type 2 diabetes do not even know that they do.

Type 2 diabetes symptoms are all of the above and the following:

• Slow healing sores or cuts
• Itching of the skin
• Decreased vision
• Impotence
• Frequent yeast infections
• Numbness or tingling in the hands, legs or feet

IfExperience one of the above symptoms, you should contact your GP for the test immediately. Even people with pre-diabetes suffer an increased risk of heart disease.
